چکیده

The IEEE 802.11e standard introduces a system of Access Categories (AC) and differentiated medium access control mechanisms for wireless local area networks. The preferential or deferral treatment of frames is achieved using configurable Arbitration Inter-Frame Spaces (AIFS) and customizable Contention Window (CW) sizes. In this paper we introduce a general algorithm which calculates the probability of winning the contention by a given AC, based on the values of AIFS lengths and CW sizes.

Performance Evaluation of Real-Time Application for EDCA Function in IEEE 802.11e WLAN

The IEEE 802.11 standard is a widely used base for wireless local area network (WLAN) infrastructure, because of its easy deployment. But it cannot provide QoS support for an increasing number of multimedia applications. With deployment of WLAN, the ability of the IEEE802.11 standard to support multimedia applications with high quality of service (QoS) requirements has increased. This paper eva...

Implementation and Evaluation of IEEE 802.11e Wireless LAN in GloMoSim

IEEE 802.11 Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) is one of the most widely deployed wireless network technologies in the world today. The success of IEEE 802.11 mainly owes to its cost effectiveness, easy deployment and high data transmission rates. However, 802.11 MAC (Medium Access Control) algorithm is unable to support modern multimedia applications which require certain level of quality of s...

Throughput Analysis Model for IEEE 802.11e EDCA with Multiple Access Categories

IEEE 802.11e standard has been specified to support differentiated quality of service (QoS), one of the critical issues on the conventional IEEE 802.11 wireless local area networks (WLANs). Enhanced Distributed Channel Access (EDCA) is the fundamental and mandatory contention-based channel access method of IEEE 802.11e, and delivers traffic based on differentiated Access Categories (ACs). A gen...

Mecanismos de Controle de Admissão Baseado em Medições em Redes IEEE 802.11e

Although the 802.11e extension of the IEEE 802.11 standard for wireless local area network was concerned to provide Quality of Service, such provisioning cannot be achieved without specific traffic control mechanisms. In this paper, the use of admission control based on measurement for QoS provision in 802.11e networks is evaluated. It is shown that QoS differentiation can be obtained with the ...

Providing Throughput Guarantees in IEEE 802.11e Wireless LANs

The upcoming new standard IEEE 802.11e aims at providing Quality of Service (QoS) support in 802.11 Wireless LANs. While the QoS mechanisms in 802.11e, namely the EDCF and the HCF, have already been defined in the standard draft, the challenge lies in the configuration of these mechanisms in order to provide the desired services. In this paper, we deal with the configuration of the EDCF in orde...
